Southbound Exchange is a warehousing, commercial and transport facility located on the outskirts of a large city in far north Queensland. Situated adjacent to the main highway, the previously green field site has prime advertising exposure. Without a similar contextual exemplar in the surrounding area, the site’s master planning was critical to its success as a sustainable landmark development. This project consists of serviced offices, medium sized warehouse space and bulky goods warehouses.
Management of traffic is critical with pedestrian, standard vehicles, trucks and road trains accessing the various building typologies. The path of the pedestrian is not forgotten with the various building forms linked at ground level by wide pathways creating vistas and short cuts through the development terminating at the green edges of the site. The residual green edges are also overlooked by upper level offices from the warehouses. These spaces service the site’s end users with green outlooks, recreational spaces and increase the green footprint of the development.
A common language of materials and building types has been developed to achieve efficient and cost-effective methods of construction through all varied building typologies.
