The existing house is of a Spanish Mission style that has undergone a number of changes over the years. The existing house is very introverted and all the extensions were carefully planned to provide access to the outside without compromising the warm nature of the existing living spaces. The duality of spaces allows for a flexible lifestyle and provides a response to changing climatic conditions.

The design chose to provide a pavilion extension to the rear of the existing house with a connecting 'bridge' which also provided vertical access between floors. Taking advantage of the rear garden the rear extension comprises a deck, kitchen and downstairs bedroom with ensuite. The kitchen has a seamless edge to the deck providing a continuous space for entertaining
