Darling Place, Ipswich

Darling Place is a mixed use development close to the heart of Ipswich. The project consists of two residential towers, townhouses and commercial space. Together these elements respond to the surrounding environment whilst also heading in a new direction. The residential towers contain a vast mix of apartment types. The Northern Tower takes advantages of its orientation and distant views with open planning and cross-ventilation. Overlooking the busy Darling Street the Southern Tower responds to views of Ipswich City. All apartments are characterised by their large balcony spaces and large living spaces. Underneath the Southern Tower is a large commercial tenancy. This activeedge connects the development to the public realm of the city.

Fronting quieter Martin Street the townhouses acknowledge the smaller scale of the neighbourhood. The rhythm and scale of these two-storey buildings are a modern interpretation of the local vernacular architecture.

Between the townhouses and the residential towers is a generous communal space. Landscaping combines with active uses such as the pool, bbq areas and lawn spaces. This area acknowledge the surrounding green space of the park and adjacent backyards and provides and activespine to the development.
