Cannon Hill Shopping Plaza is one of three suburban shopping centres adjacent each other, linked by pedestrian paths and public parking. The design intention for this centre was to improve the mall circulation for patrons and include two new tenants – The Warehouse and Action. This was achieved by creating a single mall which linked to a central court area which provided direct entry to the two major tenancies. With the incorporation of a light filled double height atrium space the second storey tenancy is given greater exposure and more visible pedestrian access is provided from the mall. It also signified a more prominent entry to the supermarket.
The atrium space also enables the speciality and market shops to coalesce and provide an active vibrant space for the shoppers to enjoy. This space is activated with a fresh food tenant and casual eating outlets. The vibrancy is enhanced with simple architectural details including exposed air conditioning ducts and structural steel, wall panelling, market awnings over the shop entrances and signage banners.
Reddog Architects was appointed to complete the documentation for the project and provide an advisory role on unresolved design issues as well as being involved during construction.
