Reynolds Residence

The Reynolds residence consisted of the conversion and refurbishment of an existing nursing home located at the top of Ballymore. Whilst the project consisted of converting internal spaces into new sleeping and living spaces for the family, we were also involved with designing the deck extension to the rear yard.

The existing house lacked any connection with the outside as the original verandahs were enclosed. The new deck provides that connection as well as providing generous outdoor living space. It opens directly from the new kitchen and faces the street thus connecting private and public as well as overlooking the front yard and children’s play space. The roof flys over the existing house roof allowing the space to breath and maintaining maximum height and natural light.

Steel and timber detailing express the modern nature of the extension which sits comfortably next to the existing house. A timber batten screen shields the eastern side of the deck and brings shade from the sun, whilst allowing breezes to flow through. This simple project responds to our clients’ needs within our climate in a simple, elegant way.
