'Station Square' Shopping Centre presented an opportunity to create a new
focus point for the Maryborough community. The site is located next door
to the railway station in a city that boasts many historically significant
buildings.
Rather than replicate past historical styles, reference was made to the building
forms, materials and textures of existing buildings. A strong visual connection
was made to the railway station with the notion of movement, repetition of structural
elements and the use of vaulted ceiling spaces in the mall.
Pitched roofs, red brick detailing and shaded verandas reflect the character
of the city's architecture and the climatic conditions of the region.
