After living in a home refurbished by Reddog, the client commissioned the practice to design a new home for them in a quieter, leafier suburb with convenient access to natural reserves and bushland. The home evolved as a unique expression of the client and site. It offers an experiential counterpoint to the client’s hobbies which involve a significant amount of time spent active in the surrounding natural environment. A delicate and nuanced relationship with the elements is provided by filtered natural light and framed views offering moments for quiet repose. The home is wrapped in a screen that acts as a conceptual ‘dust jacket’, protecting it’s inhabitants and their treasured collection of books. Conceived as a journey through distinct but connected spatial ‘chapters’ the unfolding spaces conjure anticipation, mystery and delight. The robust and unassuming external palette of colour and form conceals refined interiors.
