Marcus Van Vuuren

Student

The fusion between creativity and problem solving is what drove Marcus to pursuing architecture and design. Marcus graduated from UQ’s Bachelor of Architectural Design in 2023, having previously graduated the Bachelor of Biomedical Science program. Immigrating from South Africa in 2009, Marcus has always engaged passionately with design, from woodwork to graphic design. When COVID-19 disrupted his studies, he took the opportunity to change trajectories and dive head first into the world of architecture.

Marcus strives to use his past knowledge of human physiology to investigate how architecture can directly interact with the body, both physically and mentally, and the degree of impact that this can have on the users. He believes that the connection between a person and their context is the key to successful design, pushing for inclusivity and targeting the needs of individuals.

When he is not at work, you can find Marcus running along the Brisbane River, hunting for the best pizza in the city, on the squash court or enjoying a new Lego set to add to his collection.
