Cannon Hill Anglican College Primary Library

Cannon Hill

The Primary Library evolved because of an existing temporary library space that was insufficient to serve the needs of the children. With the creation of the new Administration building, the existing administration building was re-purposed and refurbished into a purpose built library and learning space for the children. The space was designed to create multiple environments that allow for quite learning spaces versus group gatherings. Changes in levels and ceiling treatments offered opportunities for a variety of spaces and for managing noise levels.  Outdoor spaces flow seamlessly from the inside allowing children to move freely between the interior and exterior. Plywood was used as a key material that sinuously connects book shelves, seats, drawers and ceiling panels to create a consistent palette and character to the compact space ,as well as acting as a form of acoustic attenuation.

“The Primary Library provides a quiet and calm environment for our young learners to be engaged and inspired by reading. The space provides multiple areas for learning in either small groups or whole classes and integrates well with the outdoor surroundings”.
