CHAC Administration and Wellness

Cannon Hill

The Cannon Hill Anglican College (CHAC) Administration and Wellness Centre is a significant addition to the CHAC campus. Delivered as part of a broader campus upgrade alongside a new sports hall, this three-storey facility reinforces the civic heart of the school with thoughtful spatial organisation and integrated wellness functions.

The project was conceived to modernise administrative processes reflecting CHAC’s commitment to contemporary education. The design’s emphasis was on accessibility, transparency and human-centred spaces to allow care, connectedness and responsiveness to users’ needs. The architectural language responds sensitively to the existing campus fabric with a cohesive façade articulation. The design features a distinctive curved brick façade, arched window forms, and perforated aluminium screens, aligning with neighbouring buildings whilst also being responsive to climate. Material choices including face brick, metal cladding, and high-performance glazing, help connect with the existing campus, gently bridging tradition and modernity.

The intention was to create a collaborative space, rather than ending up with a traditional corporate environment. The building is anchored at two ends by two staircases, with staff encouraged to utilsie them throughout the day to access the staff-only floors. These staircases inspired exploration of circulation throughout the building.

Testimonial

“One of the key drivers for the College in the redevelopment of its Administration building was the ability to bring the majority of our teaching and administrative staff into the one space to enhance collaboration and collegiality.  Prior to the commencement of this project many of the faculties and support services operated from satellite spaces creating a fragmented operation.

The design of the Administration building has gone a long way to solving this problem.  A welcoming entry level is the interface between our students and the pastoral support team, the middle level provides a light and airy open plan space for our teaching staff giving greater opportunity for cross faculty collaboration and the extensive staff social space on the upper level provides a space for all staff to enjoy breaks together.”
