Rawlinson Street

Murrarie, Brisbane

Rawlinson Street is a multi residential development set within the quiet suburban context of Murrarie. The surrounding area is steadily moving through a stage of densification, providing a context of conflicting typologies: the single detached houses and the newly emerging apartment buildings. This opposing backdrop provided the genesis for the design, challenging the building to provide a high density typology without overpowering its low density surrounding.

Project details

The lower levels of the building erode away to engage with the quiet streetscape while the upper floors boldly project views to the distant city beyond. Voids are carved from the form to the street, ensuring that the building simultaneously provides daylight deep within the floor plan and breaks down the scale of its elevation. The building steps down to the rear of the site, reducing overshadowing and the bulk of the building as it addresses its residential neighbours. Internally, efficient planning provides spacious and light filled units while maximising potential yield for the site.
