Project details
The building form was conceived as a single tower facing The Bluewater Lagoon and the Pioneer River with a lower tower on the south-east edge connected by a breezeway. At the lower level the commercial space is seen as an insertion below the large tower and subsequently wrapping around to River Street. This is further accentuated by the use of a coloured concrete blade wall running the full length of Wellington Street. The residential tower facing north is punctuated by deep recessed balconies and maximum glazing to allow unimpeded view to the Pioneer River. The southern edge is articulated by a wall of metal screens which allows cross ventilation to the units and indirect light to the rear of the units and light wells. The screens also provide a dynamic edge to the building with walkways skirting the southern edge providing entry to all the units.
With a northern aspect overlooking Caneland Park, the River walk and Pioneer River, the catering shop is part of the ‘public’ edge activating Wellington Street and the Bluewater Lagoon.
The commercial space is located prominently on the southern River Street edge of the development. Designed to provide a highly visible public edge it matches the scale of the existing surroundings and provides a flexible space for any potential tenants requiring either indoor or outdoor dining.
