Waterloo Street
The Waterloo Street Apartments is a new mixed use development located on the periphery of the Cleveland CBD in Brisbane. The design comprises a mix of short-term accommodation units, conference facilities, retail tenancies and residential apartments.
Project details
The design seeks to connect occupants of the building to the surrounding context of Cleveland by defining a new pedestrianised ground plane which invites the wider community into the newly activated public space and tenancies.
The overall form of the building expresses two scales simultaneously – the urban scale of the building mass and the domestic scale of the individual unit or occupant. The elevations have been broken down through articulation of the balconies and recessing the public base. The lower level balustrades are recessed to provide increased levels of privacy, while higher balconies are inverted with articulated metal screens which allow visual connection to the public spaces below and also to distant views.
